Disc/Media Compatibility
Learn MoreExperience Movies Like Never BeforeThe DMP-BD85 employs the PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus. Developed in collaboration with Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory, this high image processing technology reproduces clear, vivid colors that are faithful to the original film.Panasonic's Blu-ray Disc players employ high precision 4:4:4 signal technology, which working in tandem with PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus processes each pixel of the Blu-ray Disc video signal in the horizontal direction to compliment vertical direction processing. P4HD (Pixel Precision Progressive Processing for HD) is another technology that contributes to the superior picture quality of the Blu-ray players. P4HD processes more than 15 billion pixels per second and applies the optimal processing to every pixel. Panasonic's Blu-ray Disc players further utilize 16-level motion detection to categorize the image motion of each pixel into one of 16 levels; diagonal processing to detect diagonals and correct the pixels accordingly; 1080p up-conversion to up-convert content recorded in the 480i/p or 720p format to 1080p. This Blu-ray Disc player also provides 1080/24p output, reproducing cinema images from a Blu-ray Disc and DVD in their original 24p form with no need for conversion--enabling you to enjoy cinema images in the same format used in cinema with a 1080/24p-compatible TV. Complimenting the HD audio codecs, the BD85 Blu-ray Disc player features 96kHz surround re-master, a function that enhances the sound quality of CDs and other sources, and even improves the quality of the multi-channel audio data on Blu-ray Discs and DVDs. |

A Very Good BluRay Player |

| I bought this player based on reviews I read. I do not regret getting it. It is an excellent machine. The one thing I did not like was BD Live -- and it took a lot of hunting to figure out how to turn it off (It REALLY slows down video playback -- and is VERY intrusive) - But once I got it turned off the playback of my BluRay disks improved immediately.
I love the palyer for the streaming I can do from a popular video rental site -- I can also stream from Amazon Movies (if I want to pay). All in all -- I would buy this machine again -- I was hesitant because my DVD Player was from OPPO -- the best video player in the business -- but their BluRay Player does not have WiFi -- otherwise I would have gone with OPPO. |

| Love this unit wiyh "VISTA". I can use this to get into Netflex. Only problem is that you cannot pick movies in Netflex with this unit you need to have a WII or PS3. You need these to set up a saved library in your Wifi Netflex account. After that you can select and play using this player. Plays Youtube, Twitter, Picassa(web photo album) and also internet radio, Pandora Free. |

| The price of Blu-Ray has come down significantly....it is now affordable. This player brings a whole new level to movie watching. Not only does it have Blu-Ray technology but Internet functionality as well. I subscribed to Netflix....great all around movie and retro television watching. |
Stepped up from BD-60 to BD-85- money well spent! |

| I recently sold my DMP-BD60K because the long awaited firmware did not allow for Netflix. I thought about purchasing the BD65K but the wifi adapter would have to be purchased as well so for just $10.00 (BD-65K plus Wifi adapter came out to $165.00) more I was able to step up to the BD85K with included wifi adapter! My only complaint is the interface for Netflix...lacks some luster, my Netflix via my Wii has more options for choosing a video, I'm hoping this is a simple firmware upgrade to come from Panasonic. Overall, I'm glad I spent the extra money! |

| I have had this Blu-Ray player for several months now. As a disk player it's great. The up-conversion of DVDs is excellent. I was surprised at how much better DVDs look on this machine compared to my old DVD player. Blu-Rays, of course, look great. It's easy to set-up and use. The built-in Wi-Fi is a nice feature, but since the rest of my kit has networking, I just ran CAT 5 to the wall and went wired.
My only nit is that for some reason when I try to go to the menu on the DVD, I have to open a sub menu first, then top menu to get back to the DVD menu. I'd really like just a menu button. On Blu-rays's, the menu button takes you right to the menu. The menu issue could be related to how the DVD's are formatted. I don't know, but I nicked a star anyway. If I find out differently, I will change my ranking. Vieralink is nice to have. With it, you can automate some tasks and control both devices from the same remote. VieraLink only works with Panasonic products. Since I have a Universal Remote Control URC-R50 Digital R50 Universal Remote Control, I don't need the remote functions, but I did test them and they work well. The function I do use is when I turn on the Blu-Ray, it automatically turns on the TV if needed, and changes the TV input to the Blu-Ray. That's a nice feature. The Blu-Ray has a power option that will keep it in a warm state and power up quicker, but I don't use that. It only takes 30 seconds to power up from a cold start. I can wait that long. The Internet options, Vieracast, left a bit to be desired. Panasonic obviously has plans to add more features to Vieracast (there are close to 16 open slots on the Vieracast menu). Right now I can view Netflix, Youtube, Pandora, Picassa, weather and news. Twitter is marked off but unavailable. Frankly, I don't ever see myself using any of those features (I have laptops for Internet access) but getting to the Vieracast screen is difficulty for me. I had to bring up the functions menu, then network. Clicking on VieraCast on the remote did nothing. I did watch a Netflix video streamed live. It worked well. If you have a Netflix account, you can stream live to the Blu-Ray. I prefer downloading to my Tivo since I then have the content and don't have to worry about Internet outages, but I didn't experience any issues. This Blu-Ray is an excellent value. If you have a Panasonic TV that supports Vieracast, then it's all the better. |
